Classic Open National Teams
Last Updated on 08/28/2024
Selection Criteria:
Must be a current Powerlifting America member in good standing.
Athletes must pay all past and present team fees seven days before the end of final nominations.
Primary Selection:
Totals from the current year’s SBD Sheffield Powerlifting Championships and Powerlifting America Classic Open National Championships will be considered. The highest total achieved in each weight class between the SBD Sheffield and Classic Open Nationals will get the first invite to the US national team (the acquired total must be at least 85% of their weight class’ IPF world record as of the start of the calendar year).
If two lifters post the same total in the same weight class, the one with the lighter body weight will receive the first invite.
If two lifters post the same total in the same weight class at the same body weight, the lifter who achieved the total first will get the first invite.
Tie-Breakers:
If two lifters post the same total in the same weight class, the one with the lighter body weight will receive the first invite.
If two lifters post the same total in the same weight class at the same body weight, the lifter who achieved the total first will get the first invite.
Secondary Selection:
All other lifters will be placed in the alternate pool and ranked based on proximity to the IPF world record total in their weight class as of the start of the calendar year, down to 80%. Results from any national or international championship event from the start of the previous calendar year through the final date of the current year’s Powerlifting America Classic Open Nationals will be considered.
NAPF Selection:
The person with the highest total between SBD Sheffield and Powerlifting America Classic Open Nationals in each weight class who doesn’t secure a spot on the IPF Classic Open World Championship team will receive the first invitation (the acquired total must be at least 80% of their weight class’ IPF world record as of the start of the calendar year).
Tie Breakers and Secondary Selection criteria remain the same for athletes who do not receive a nomination for Classic Open Worlds. Lifters who compete at Classic Open Worlds may be considered for NAPF only after the secondary selection criteria has been exhausted.
*Revisions to National Team selection criteria will be published within a month after the conclusion of the 2025 NAPF Championship
